If you live with dry, itchy patches that keep coming back, you may be looking at eczema homeopathic remedies as part of your skin care. Eczema is common at every age, and it tends to come and go in flare-ups. This guide explains what eczema is, which homeopathic remedies doctors commonly consider and why, and the everyday habits that can help your skin. Homeopathy sits alongside your regular care, so keep using any medicine your doctor has prescribed, and speak to a doctor before you start anything new.
What Is Eczema?
Eczema, also called atopic dermatitis, is a long-term skin condition in which the skin’s protective barrier is weaker than usual. The skin loses water easily, turns dry, and reacts more strongly to soaps, sweat, dust and changes in weather. It is not contagious, so it cannot pass from one person to another.
Common signs:
- Itching, often worse at night
- Dry, rough or scaly patches
- Red patches on fair skin, or darker brown or grey patches on brown skin
- Small bumps that may ooze clear fluid and then crust
- Thick, leathery skin in places that have been scratched for a long time
In babies, eczema often starts on the cheeks and scalp. In children, it shows up in the creases of the elbows and knees, and on the wrists and ankles. Adults often get it on the hands, neck and eyelids.
What can set off a flare-up:
Eczema often runs in families where people also have asthma or hay fever. Flare-ups are commonly linked to:
- Harsh soaps, detergents and very hot water
- Dry winter air, or hot and sweaty weather
- Dust mites, pollen and pet hair
- Wool or rough synthetic clothing
- Stress and poor sleep
See a Doctor Promptly If:
- The skin weeps yellow fluid, forms honey-coloured crusts, or has pus
- You have a fever or feel unwell during a flare
- Painful clusters of blisters or small open sores appear (get medical help the same day)
- The itching keeps you or your child awake at night
- A baby has eczema, or a rash spreads quickly
Eczema Homeopathic Remedies Doctors Commonly Consider
In homeopathy, a remedy is chosen from the whole picture: how the skin looks, where the patches are, what makes the itching better or worse, and the person’s general health. Two people with eczema may be given different remedies. The notes below are general indications from homeopathic practice. They are here to help you understand a consultation, not to help you pick a remedy on your own.
- Graphites: Often considered for thick, rough or cracked skin with a sticky, honey-like discharge, especially behind the ears and in skin folds.
- Sulphur: Often considered for dry, rough skin with strong itching that feels worse with warmth, after bathing and in bed at night.
- Mezereum: Often considered when thick crusts form with moisture underneath, commonly on the scalp, and the itching is intense at night.
- Arsenicum album: Often considered for dry, scaly skin with a burning feeling, where warmth tends to ease the discomfort.
- Petroleum: Often considered for very dry, deeply cracked skin on the hands and fingertips that gets worse in winter.
- Rhus toxicodendron: Often considered for small, fluid-filled blisters with intense itching that hot water briefly settles.
The potency and dose depend on the person, so a homeopathic doctor should choose them. If the skin looks infected or is spreading fast, see a doctor before trying any remedy.
Important: Keep using every medicine and cream your doctor has prescribed, including steroid creams, and consult a doctor before you stop or change any of them.

Daily Skin Care and Diet Tips for Eczema
Skin care habits
- Moisturise at least twice a day, and within three minutes of a bath while the skin is still slightly damp. Thick creams and ointments usually hold in water better than thin lotions.
- Bathe in lukewarm water for 5 to 10 minutes, then pat the skin dry instead of rubbing it.
- Use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser in place of regular soap.
- Wear loose cotton clothes, and wash new clothes before wearing them.
- Keep nails short. Soft cotton gloves at night can stop children scratching in their sleep.
- Rinse off sweat after exercise or on hot days.
Food and eczema
For most adults, food is not the main trigger. In some people, especially young children, foods such as milk, eggs, wheat, peanuts or soya can make eczema worse.
- Keep a simple diary of food, weather, skin products and flare-ups for a few weeks, and share it with your doctor.
- Do not cut out whole food groups without medical advice. This matters most for children, who need these foods to grow.
- Eat a balanced diet with fruit, vegetables, whole grains and dals, and drink enough water.
- Cut back on any food you have clearly noticed sets off your own flare-ups.
Stress and sleep
Stress and tiredness can make itching feel stronger, and scratching then disturbs sleep further. A fixed bedtime, a cool bedroom and a few minutes of slow breathing or a short walk each day can help break that cycle.
